Inclement Weather & School Closures
Guidelines from the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District regarding inclement weather and school closures. FMS will follow guidance from the FNSB School District regarding hazardous weather conditions.
Important Items to Note:
**Please bring all winter gear, including boots, everyday - even if we are unable to go outside we need to be prepared for a fire or evacuation drill**
IF FMS is closing for a hazardous weather day the Director will send an email by 6:00am (or sooner if possible) letting families know once the FNSB Superintendent makes the call as we follow the district's hazardous weather conditions.
Upon a closure there will not be any staff at FMS.
This image belongs and applies to the FNSBSD and details their decision making. We share this guidance from the District in case school is cancelled or delayed. The district has info on the radio stations so parents can also listen to the radio to see if school is cancelled by the FNSBSD.
Any calls or questions from FMS parents should come to the FMS Director or Fairbanks Montessori School, as we are not affiliated with the FNSBSD, and a decision may be made regarding a certain school building, or area of town, that does not affect FMS.
Please use your judgement and caution on the roads during hazardous conditions if FMS remains open - when roads are hazardous it is fine for a student to arrive later than their scheduled start time.
FMS may close due to power outages, extreme cold (-50 or colder at the Fairbanks International Airport), or for other reasons. In these instances, if possible, the Director will send an email by 6:00am to notify families of the closure. In case of an unplanned closure that occurs during the school day, families will have one hour (from the time the notification) is sent to pick up their students.
